The Rules

As with any competition, there are some rules that all players must adhere to. Please familiarise yourself with the rules before play.

Alongside these please remember to respect your fellow players and opponents at all times, respect the host golf clubs and their members, and respect the integrity of the competition. At the end of the day, it’s a game and it’s for charity so please just enjoy it.

Competition Rules

1. Eligibility

  • 1.1 Each participant MUST be an employee of the company they are entering on behalf of at the time of the competition.

  • 1.2 Multiple teams from the same company are permitted to enter. Who doesn't love a bit of intra-company rivalry!

  • 1.3 All participants must be aged 18 or over as of January 1st, 2026.

  • 1.4 If teams qualify for Finals Day but are unable to attend, their place will be forfeited and offered to the next qualifying team in the standings. An entire team CANNOT be substituted with other company employees for the Final. Replacing a single player is subject to the terms of 3.2 below.

  • 1.5 The tournament is open to both male and female competitors.

2. Handicap Requirements

  • 2.1 Each participant MUST have an official handicap recognised by golf’s World Handicap System™.

  • 2.2 No handicap means no entry.

  • 2.3 If a player is found to be playing without an official handicap, their team will automatically be disqualified and their opponents awarded the match.

  • 2.4 No refunds of entry fees will be provided for teams disqualified due to handicap non-compliance..

If you don't have an official handicap, you can acquire a recognised handicap through England Golf and the MyEG App, but be quick. For more details visit www.englandgolf.org

3. Team Composition and Substitutions

  • 3.1 Teams MUST consist of the same two players throughout the competition.

  • 3.2 Substitutions are only permitted in extreme, unforeseen circumstances and require the express written consent of the Event Director.

  • 3.3 Any proposed substitute must meet all eligibility criteria, including being an employee of the same company and holding a valid WHS handicap.

4. Competition Play and Format

  • 4.1 All players will tee off from the same designated tees.

  • 4.2 The tournament will use differing formats for the knockout rounds and Finals Day. Please refer to our tournament Format page for further details.

  • 4.2 All matches must be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A Rules Limited, and any local rules in force at the host venue.

5. Finals Day

  • 5.1 By entering, teams confirm they are available to compete on the designated Finals Day (Scheduled for a weekday in early September 2026; exact date TBC).

  • 5.2 Players will be informed of the exact date of Finals Day ASAP.

  • 5.3 If a qualifying team is unable to attend Finals Day, they must notify the Event Director at least 14 days in advance.

  • 5.4 In the event that a qualifying team cannot attend, the spot does not automatically pass to other employees within the same company. Instead, the place will be offered to the best performing team from the previous round (team with the least heavy defeat) at the discretion of the Event Director. This ensures the competitive integrity of the final.

  • 5.5 As per Clause 3.2, if one original player is unavailable due to extreme circumstances, a substitute may be permitted with written consent, provided they meet all eligibility and handicap requirements. Replacing both players is considered a team withdrawal.

6. Venues

  • 6.1 All courses and venues are subject to change.

  • 6.2 In the event of a venue change, participants will be notified in reasonable time, and the organisers will provide an alternative venue of equivalent standard.

7. Prizes

  • 7.1 All prizes are subject to change and availability.

  • 7.2 If a specific prize becomes unavailable, an equivalent substitute of similar value will be provided.

  • 7.3 No cash alternatives are available for any prizes. Prizes are non-transferable.

8. General

  • 8.1 The Event Director’s decision is final in all matters relating to the competition rules, eligibility, and disputes.

  • 8.2 Entry fees are non-refundable unless the competition is cancelled by the organisers.

  • 8.3 Participants are responsible for their own insurance and the safety of their equipment while at host venues.

Not got a handicap?

If you've not got an official golf handicap but still want to enter, don't panic. It's easy to get one, but you need to be quick! Just download the iGolf MyEG App, play 54 holes with somebody to sign off your score (3 rounds of 18 holes, or 6 rounds of 9 holes) and submit them via the app. You'll then be issued your official handicap and can enter.

FAQs

What if we can't agree on a date with our opponents?

Both teams must make a reasonable effort to find a suitable date within the round window. If a date cannot be agreed upon before the deadline, the Event Director will make a final decision, which may include a coin toss or disqualification of one or both teams. In really extreme circumstances, an additional extension may be possible but this will be entirely at the Event Director's discretion.

What if my handicap changes between rounds?

This is expected. You must play off your current handicap index on the day of the match. Always verify your current index via the iGolf/My England Golf app before calculating your strokes.

I have a handicap from a society, is that okay?

No. All participants must hold an official WHS™ handicap recognised by a national governing body (e.g., England Golf). Society handicaps or self-allocated handicaps are not permitted.

Can I play if I change jobs mid-tournament?

The rule states you must work for the company at the time of entry. If you leave the company during the tournament, please contact the Event Director. Usually, as long as your partner still works there, we allow the team to continue, but this is at our discretion.
